Human Grit Overcomes Nature’s Fury: Critical Patient Safely Evacuated Through Damaged Highway

1 min read

Mandi, September 4 – In a remarkable display of coordination and resilience, Mandi and Kullu district administrations successfully created a green corridor to evacuate a critical patient through the severely damaged Manali–Chandigarh highway, ensuring timely transfer to AIIMS Bilaspur.

Earlier in the day, a landslide at Akhara Bazaar in Kullu left three family members injured, including a 32-year-old man with a severe head injury. Referred to AIIMS Bilaspur, his transfer posed a daunting challenge as multiple landslides had disrupted the highway.

Responding swiftly, Deputy Commissioners Apoorv Devgan (Mandi) and Torul S. Ravish (Kullu) coordinated efforts with NHAI and local agencies. Under the supervision of SDM Balichowki Deviram and SDM Sadar Rupinder Kaur, JCBs and heavy machinery were deployed to clear debris near Aut and other landslide-hit stretches. Backup ambulances were stationed en route, and alternative passages were scouted.

Despite heavy rains, swelling Beas river, and repeated slides at Ddawa and Kainchi Mor, the ambulance was safely guided through sensitive zones. Three JCBs were damaged during the operation, but the determination of operators and officials ensured success.

By afternoon, the patient was securely transported towards Bilaspur, reflecting the administration’s commitment to safeguarding every life. DC Apoorv Devgan lauded the collective effort of officials, NHAI, and field staff, calling it “a true example of human courage and coordination in the face of adversity.”
