HRTC Clarifies Amendments in Freight Charges Policy, Reduces Commercial Item Fares by 75%
1 min readA spokesperson from the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has addressed misleading information circulating in some media outlets regarding recent amendments to the corporation’s freight charges policy. He emphasized that the reports are not factually accurate.
The spokesperson clarified that there has been no change in the fare policy for personal or household goods. Passengers are still allowed to carry up to 30 kg or two bags of any size without incurring any freight charges, as was the case previously.
The amendment specifically concerns commercial items such as automobile spare parts, electronic goods, dry fruits, new vessels, cosmetic products, and medicines. Earlier, these items were charged at higher rates, but the amendment has reduced the fare by 75%. For instance, the previous fare for commercial baggage weighing up to 40 kg, without a passenger, has been significantly reduced and now falls into various slabs for better affordability.
The spokesperson urged the public not to be misled by misinformation and reassured them that no changes have been made to the freight charges for personal items, including household goods, apple boxes, school bags, laptops, and other daily essentials.
