Shimla, Feb 10, 2026
In a move aimed at increasing revenue and strengthening public-sector collaboration, Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) have entered into a strategic partnership to offer integrated travel packages for tourists across the country.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed on February 10 to facilitate seamless, comfortable, and cost-effective travel experiences by combining rail transportation with accommodation and hospitality services. Under this collaboration, tourists will be able to book customised packages that include train travel, boarding, lodging in HPTDC hotels, and local sightseeing, ensuring better last-mile connectivity and standardized services.

The tie-up is expected to enhance HPTDC’s visibility at the national level by leveraging the extensive outreach of Indian Railways, helping it compete more effectively with private tourism operators. Officials said the initiative would lead to higher occupancy in HPTDC hotels, improved infrastructure utilisation, and greater convenience for domestic tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Rajeev Kumar, Anil Taneja, and Dhiraj Bali from HPTDC, and Harjot Singh Sandhu and Harsh Deep from IRCTC.

As part of the collaboration, IRCTC has announced a Shimla Toy Train Weekend Getaway package (2 nights/3 days) from Kalka to Shimla, scheduled from March 27 to 29, 2026. The package includes a chartered toy train journey, stay at HPTDC’s Hotel Holiday Home, local sightseeing, and breakfasts, with prices starting from ₹8,255 per person (including taxes).

Officials said the partnership aligns with the broader objective of promoting Himachal Pradesh as an accessible and well-organised tourist destination, boosting tourism, generating employment, and contributing to the state’s economic growth.
