Shimla, August 8, 2025:
In a proactive step towards environmental sustainability, the Youth Red Cross (YRC) unit of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, conducted a tree plantation drive under its flagship ‘Green Ghandal’ initiative. The event was held under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, in collaboration with the District Red Cross Society, Shimla Branch, and the Gram Panchayat of Ghandal Village.

A total of 80 saplings—including 25 deodar, 40 bann, and 15 banni trees—were planted during the drive with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and local residents. These native species are aimed at boosting regional biodiversity and long-term ecological stability.

The plantation began ceremonially with saplings planted by Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Registrar, alongside Dr. Sachin Sharma, Dean Student Welfare, who emphasized the importance of youth-driven climate action.

The initiative was further supported by Dr. Rohit Sharma, Faculty Coordinator of YRC, and local leaders including the Pradhan and Up-Pradhan of Ghandal Village. Operational logistics were managed efficiently by Mr. Gautam, Secretary, District Red Cross Shimla, and Mr. Romil Chawla, President, YRC-HPNLU.

The Vice-Chancellor lauded the collaborative spirit of the event and reaffirmed HPNLU’s commitment to forging lasting partnerships with local communities for a greener future. Special thanks were extended to the Forest Department’s Dhami Range Officers for their support and provision of land for the plantation.
