HPNLU, Shimla Launches One-Credit Certificate Course on “Forensic Science and the Law”

Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, the Centre for Criminology and Forensic Science (CCFS) under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, is organizing a One-Credit Certificate Course on “Forensic Science and the Law” from 15th November to 13th December 2025, to be conducted online every Saturday and Sunday. The course shall be coordinated by Dr. Ruchi Sapahia, Director, CCFS, HPNLU, Shimla, with Dr. Rajesh Verma, former Director, Directorate of Forensic Services, Himachal Pradesh, as the Resource Person.
This unique initiative aims to bridge the gap between law and forensic science by providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of how scientific techniques support the criminal justice system. The course will cover essential topics including forensic evidence, DNA profiling, electronic records under the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, toxicology, ballistics, and expert testimony, enabling participants to interpret and evaluate forensic materials within the framework of the law.
The course is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, academicians, legal practitioners, and professionals in the fields of criminology, criminal law, and forensic applications. Through interactive lectures, case studies, and discussions, the programme seeks to enhance participants’ ability to appreciate the evidentiary value of forensic reports and their role in ensuring fairness in legal proceedings.
