HPNLU Shimla Commemorates International Human Rights Day with Insightful Lecture
1 min readShimla, December 10, 2024: Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice Chancellor, marked International Human Rights Day with a special lecture organized by its Centre for Human Rights and Disability Studies. Themed “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now in Reference to Vulnerable People,” the hybrid-mode lecture focused on human dignity, diversity, and justice.
Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxenaninaugurated the event, emphasizing proactive measures to uphold human rights and the complexities of identity in a politically constructed world. She highlighted the need for robust systems to protect and prevent abuses.
The keynote speaker, Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor of DNLU Jabalpur, addressed the challenges faced by marginalized communities and the universality of fundamental human rights. He connected the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) with Indian constitutional provisions, stressing state responsibility in safeguarding rights.
The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Registrar, HPNLU Shimla, who applauded the organizers and reiterated the university’s commitment to human rights advocacy.
The event, coordinated by Dr. Sachin Sharma, Director of the Centre, reinforced HPNLU Shimla’s role in advancing human rights and justice.
