Shimla/Geneva, November 4:
Dr. Sachin Sharma, Associate Professor of Law at Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, and Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Disability Studies, represented India at the United Nations Social Forum in Geneva on October 30–31. The forum focused on “The Role of Education in Strengthening All Human Rights.”

Dr. Sharma emphasized that persons with disabilities must be placed at the forefront of policy discussions, highlighting the importance of first-person narratives in shaping inclusive education systems. He advocated for disability-inclusive curriculum reforms and the dismantling of structural barriers that hinder real inclusion.

Calling the role of governments “non-negotiable,” he urged stronger enforcement of rights, accessibility measures, and equitable learning environments across educational institutions.

HPNLU Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena commended the participation, noting it reinforces the University’s commitment to advancing human rights, social justice, and inclusive education.
