HPNLU Organizes Forest Fire Awareness Camp in Dhami Village

Shimla, 5 June 2025 – On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Legal Aid Clinic and Centre for Environmental Studies of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice Chancellor, HPNLU, organized a community outreach programme on “Disaster Management in Forests” at Dhami village, near Shimla.

The initiative focused on the growing threat of forest fires, particularly in the hilly terrains of Himachal Pradesh. The student and faculty members engaged in interactive sessions with the local villagers and school students, spreading awareness on preventive measures, emergency responses, and the use of helplines during forest fire incidents.

Villagers openly shared their concerns and personal experiences, while school children actively participated in the awareness drive. The program emphasized the importance of local vigilance, timely reporting, and community-based forest management.

The villagers welcomed the HPNLU team with warmth and expressed gratitude for the informative and timely initiative. The camp successfully contributed to HPNLU’s ongoing mission of promoting legal literacy, environmental education, and community sensitization.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Alok Kumar, Chairperson of Legal Aid Committee; Dr. Chandreshwari Minhas, Director, Centre for Environmental Studies; and Saurabh Sadhwani, Student Convenor, Legal Aid Clinic.
