The members interacted with the residents, not only addressing the concerns of drug abuse on a one-on-one basis but also spreading awareness about the free legal aid services available to them, including the presence of the Legal Aid Clinic (LAC) of HPNLU in their vicinity. The members, while building a rapport with the residents, informed them about the problem of the influx of drugs, why to abstain from any such substances, and available remedies and a helpline number for the same. Some of the villagers also shared their personal experiences with drug abuse, providing valuable insights into how people fall prey and the challenges they face.
The initiative got an encouraging response from the people who welcomed the members with appreciating hospitality and showed gratitude towards the outreach efforts. The villagers expressed their positive feedback and suggested taking up some pressing issues such as women and labor rights and spreading awareness for these sections of society for further campaigns.
This was another successful program in the clinic’s goal of spreading legal awareness and help, especially to the state’s vulnerable and marginalized population. The event was organized by Dr. Alok Kumar, Chairperson of the Legal Aid Committee, HPNLU, Shimla.
