HPLA meeting to support the Government in removing the disparities in Libraries
1 min readThe meeting of Himachal Pradesh Library Association (HPLA) was held in Zurich Resort, Kandaghat on January 7, 2024. The meeting was chaired by Prof. A S Chandel and presided by Sh. Prem Chand, Librarian, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla.
Members conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing activities within the association, delving into concerns such as the state of libraries and librarians, unemployment, staffing patterns, and other pertinent matters. During the meeting, the HPLA committed to support Government of Himachal Pradesh in rectifying discrepancies within the library system of the state. Key areas of focus include the establishment of digital libraries and the formulation of the Himachal Pradesh Public Library Act. The association resolved to promptly submit representations to the government addressing these concerns. The HPLA also shown its commitment to address existing disparities in recruitment and promotion, unemployment and condition of library professionals working in private institutions. Prof. A S Chandel as mentor, Sh. Prem Chand the president of the HPLA, Sh. T R Sharma, Smt. Arun Bala, Smt Yashoda Negi, Sh. Dinesh Sharma, Dr. Vipin Sharma, Dr. Anil Tomar and many other library professionals were present in the meeting. The meeting was coordinated by Dr. Suresh K Chauhan, Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat.
