HPERC Chairman Devendra Kumar Sharma Elected President of International Commission on Large Dams

Chengdu, China, May 20 – Shri Devendra Kumar Sharma, Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission, has been elected President of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) during its 93rd Annual General Meeting and 28th Congress held in Chengdu, China. ICOLD comprises 106 member nations, including India, and serves as a global platform for knowledge exchange on dam safety, design, and construction.

This marks only the second time in ICOLD’s 95-year history that an Indian has been elected President. Sharma, with over 43 years of experience in the energy and water resources sectors, emphasized his commitment to enhancing dam safety, promoting gender diversity, climate change resilience, and empowering underrepresented national committees.

A native of Mehrin Kathla village in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Sharma previously served as Chairman of Bhakra Beas Management Board and Managing Director of Himachal Power Corporation Ltd. He is also a member of India’s National Security Advisory Board.
