HIMCOSTE Organizes Two-Day National Space Day Program at CSLC, Shoghi

Shimla, August 22, 2024: The Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology, and Environment (HIMCOSTE) is hosting a two-day program to celebrate National Space Day at the Centre for Science Learning and Creativity (CSLC), Shoghi, Shimla. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Suresh C. Attri, Joint Member Secretary of HIMCOSTE and Chief Scientific Officer of the Department of Environment, Science, Technology, and Climate Change.

Dr. Attri welcomed the guest speaker, Dr. B.K. Tyagi, a scientist from Vigyan Prasar, along with the participants. In his opening remarks, Dr. Attri highlighted the rich history of Jyotishastra (Indian astrology) and how Indians have been calculating the movements of the sun and planets for thousands of years. He also shared the significant contributions of Indian scientists in the field of space science.

Dr. B.K. Tyagi delivered an expert talk titled “Cycle to Moon and Sun – Indian Space Journey,” providing an insightful overview of India’s advancements in space exploration.

The program also featured a quiz competition, with seven teams from various colleges and universities participating. Nishtha Verma and Roopanshi Gupta from St. Bede’s College, Shimla, secured first place, Joe P Bijo and Sharoon Sharma from Shoolini University took second place, and Shelly Sharma and Aditya Kaushal from Govt. College, Solan, finished in third. Dr. Poornima Bali served as the quiz master.

After the quiz, participants toured the CSLC labs, exploring the latest in science learning and creativity. The event was attended by Mrs. Deepshikha (SSO), Mr. Umesh Pathania (TO), Dr. Shashi Dhar (SSA), Mr. Jai Gopal, and Mr. Vijender from HIMCOSTE.
