HIMCOSTE Celebrated “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”
2 min readThe HP ENVIS Hub at Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE) celebrated “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” by organizing the awareness campaign to avoid the use of single use plastics at Government Senior Secondary School, Durgapur, Naldehra, Shimla.
Sh. Sat Pal Dhiman, Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE graced the occasion as chief guest. He informed that the Government of India has launched a 75-week long campaign ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to celebrate the achievements of the country and its people and 4th to 10th October, 2021 has been declared as Iconic Week by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India for organizing paradigmatic and impactful events. He further informed that keeping in view the historical call of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to phase out single use plastic by 2022, “Awareness programmes to avoid the use of single use plastics” has been identifies as one of themes for the Iconic Week celebrations. He told about the importance of this Iconic Week and emphasized not to use single use plastics.
Sh. Chandan Singh, Assistant Environment Engineer from Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board delivered a lecture on single use plastics and Waste Management. Thereafter the cleanliness campaign was organised and the plastic litters from the tourist place ‘Naldehra’ had been collected and properly disposed of. The tourists were also aware to avoid the use of single use plastic and not to litter here and there. Sh. Randhir Singh Rathore, Principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Naldehra, Sh. Pankaj Sharma, District Science Supervisor, District Shimla, Mrs. Priyanka Sharma, In charge- ENVIS, students, school teachers, panchayat personals and officials from HIMCOSTE and HP ENVIS Hub were present in this awareness campaign.
