A coordination meeting was here today between the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Himachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (HPSACS) with the objective of eliminating the vertical transmission of HIV and syphilis. The primary aim of the meeting was to further strengthen coordination between the two departments to ensure early identification and effective management of HIV and syphilis amongst expectant women. The meeting was chaired by Pradeep Kumar, Mission Director, NHM.

Emphasis was laid on ensuring regular screening of all pregnant women, especially at health institutions besides developing a strategy to conduct testing for women who deliver at home. Apart from this, deliberation were made upon strengthening information, education, and communication activities to raise public awareness.

It was observed that if both the NHM and AIDS control society works in coordination besides other related departments, significant progress can be made toward eliminating vertical transmission of HIV and syphilis in the state.

The joint efforts aim to ensure timely screening of every pregnant woman and provide them with necessary care and support. This initiative will serve as a strong step toward the prevention of HIV and syphilis in the state, said Pradeep Kumar.
