Himachal Pradesh’s Chitkul Village Awarded Best Tourism Village-2023 by India’s Ministry of Tourism

On September 30th, the Ministry of Tourism, a division of the Indian government, honored Chitkul village in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh as the Best Tourism Village-2023.

Dr. Major Shashank Gupta, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Kalpa, received this prestigious award on behalf of the Kinnaur district’s Tourism Department during a ceremony held in New Delhi. Notably, Chitkul is the sole village in Himachal Pradesh to receive this distinction.

This recognition underscores the Indian government’s commitment to bolster sustainable tourism, as demonstrated by its recent initiative, “Travel for Life,” which aims to promote responsible tourism and preserve India’s rich cultural and natural heritage. The recent G-20 Summit held in New Delhi further emphasized India’s dedication to fostering global unity and cooperation, with discussions highlighting the importance of collective aspirations for a sustainable future.

Dr. Gupta urged every traveler, every business, and every citizen to embrace the program, encouraging responsible travel, respecting the environment, and appreciating the diverse cultures that enrich our world. He emphasized that the Travel for Life program aligns with the mission to make our planet sustainable.
