Himachal Pradesh Police Urges Citizens to Report Cyber Crimes Promptly
1 min readHamirpur, July 31, 2024 — In response to the rising incidents of online fraud and other cyber crimes, the Himachal Pradesh Police’s Cyber Crime Wing has urged citizens to exercise caution and report any cyber crime or online fraud immediately by calling the Cyber Helpline number 1930. Additionally, complaints can be lodged with the Cyber Crime Police Station in Mandi at 01905-226900 or via email at PSCyber-CR@hp.gov.in.
ASP Manmohan Singh of the Cyber Crime Branch, Central Range Mandi, highlighted that cyber criminals are using sophisticated tactics to ensnare victims. Often, fraudsters use WhatsApp calls to trap individuals and create obscene videos, later using these to extort money.
A recent case reported on July 27 at the Cyber Crime Police Station Mandi involved a female fraudster who befriended the complainant through WhatsApp, deceitfully recorded an obscene video, and subsequently extorted approximately INR 27 lakh. The police are currently investigating the matter.
