Shimla, October 7: In the wake of a cryptocurrency fraud case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Himachal Pradesh Police conducted raids at various locations across the state on Saturday. During these operations, the police seized documents, laptops, digital devices, and other evidence. Raids were also carried out at the suspected locations of the accused in Punjab and Chandigarh, two neighboring states.
The ongoing investigation has revealed that the most significant cryptocurrency fraud cases have occurred in the Mandi district. Mandi Cyber Police Station has received more than a dozen complaints, involving nearly 25 crore INR ($3.3 million USD), from victims who have fallen prey to these fraudulent schemes. Notably, all three masterminds behind these schemes are residents of the Mandi district.
Two of the masterminds, Hemraj Rajput and Sukhdev Thakur, were previously arrested by the SIT in Gujarat. They were apprehended with the assistance of the Gujarat Police and brought back to Himachal Pradesh for further questioning and investigation. Both of these individuals had been in hiding in Gujarat after perpetrating the frauds in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, where they allegedly duped local residents out of 18 crore INR ($2.4 million USD).
The SIT, under the leadership of Abhishek Dullar, the Director-General of Police for the Southern Range, has affirmed that the search and investigation operations will continue relentlessly. The SIT is determined to bring the culprits involved in cryptocurrency fraud to justice, and this case remains an ongoing priority for law enforcement in the region.
This crackdown on cryptocurrency-related fraud in Himachal Pradesh is part of a broader effort by Indian authorities to curb illegal activities and scams associated with cryptocurrencies.
