Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla Celebrates Constitution Day 2024 with Grandeur
2 min readShimla, 26 November 2024: Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the aegis of Prof (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice- Chancellor, HPNLU, celebrated Constitution Day (Samvidhan Divas) with great enthusiasm and reverence, honoring the visionary framers of the Indian Constitution and exploring its deep-rooted connections to the ancient values of Bharat. The event, was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Judge, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, and drew participation from students, faculty, and esteemed guests.
The program began with a stirring recitation of the Preamble to the Constitution by Dr. Ayush Raj, Assistant Professor at HPNLU. The recitation served as a solemn reminder of the foundational ideals of justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity that define India as a democratic republic.
In her welcome address, Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice-Chancellor of HPNLU, emphasized the significance of Constitution Day as an occasion to reflect on the democratic principles and values that form the backbone of the nation. She highlighted the role of the university in fostering constitutional literacy and encouraging critical engagement with the ideas and principles enshrined in the Constitution.
The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking lecture by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vivek Singh Thakur on the theme, “The Constitutional Embodiment of Ancient Bharat Values.” Justice Thakur’s address delved into the philosophical and ethical dimensions of the Indian Constitution, tracing its roots to the ancient traditions of Bharat. He explored how values such as dharma (righteousness), satya (truth), and ahimsa (non-violence) have shaped the moral and ethical framework of the Constitution. Justice Thakur eloquently explained the relevance of these timeless values in addressing contemporary challenges and ensuring the rule of law in modern governance.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) S. S. Jaswal, Registrar of HPNLU and Director of the Centre for Parliamentary Studies. He expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Justice Thakur for his enlightening address and acknowledged the efforts of the university’s faculty, staff, and students in making the event a success.
