Himachal Pradesh Library Association (HPLA) Advances with Key Initiatives at JUIT
2 min readSolan, May 21, 2024: The Himachal Pradesh Library Association (HPLA) held a pivotal meeting at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), marking significant strides in the realm of library science and professional development. The event, led by Dr. Suresh K Chauhan, Deputy Librarian at JUIT, and attended by distinguished members, commenced at 11:00 AM with an inspiring welcome from Prof. A S Chandel, UGC Emeritus Fellow.
Dr. Chauhan kicked off the proceedings with an overview of HPLA, setting the stage for discussions on critical agenda items. These included the General Body election of HPLA and the launch of a new, dynamic website aimed at enhancing the association’s digital presence. Key topics of discussion ranged from finalizing the HPLA logo, addressing library vacancies across the state, improving the skills of library professionals, to fostering collaborative efforts.
Under the supervision of Gautam Bahl, the appointed Returning Officer, it was decided that the current governing body would continue until the next election cycle. In a significant advancement, Prof. Chandel, alongside Prem Chand, President of HPLA and librarian at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla, inaugurated the new HPLA website (https://hpla.in). This launch symbolizes a major step forward in enhancing HPLA’s outreach and digital engagement.
The event also featured a campus tour, where members marveled at JUIT’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, reinforcing the institution’s role as a hub of educational excellence. The meeting concluded at 3:00 PM, with heartfelt thanks from the President, celebrating the collective efforts to elevate libraries and librarianship in Himachal Pradesh.
