Shimla, May 17, 2024:
With the India Alliance poised to form a government with a full majority on June 4, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) finds itself in a state of disarray due to overwhelming support for the coalition. The BJP leaders, deviating from real issues, are attempting to mislead the public by stirring religious and communal sentiments.
Sanjay Awasthi, the Pradesh Congress Committee president, targeted the BJP, stating that after ten years, the party has lost its relevance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi fails to account for his ten years in office. Similarly, Dr. Rajeev Bindal, the state BJP president, is engaged in misleading the public. They must explain which achievements justify seeking votes for the third consecutive term.
Awasthi highlighted Bindal’s role during the global pandemic, where instead of helping, he sought opportunities to exploit the crisis under the double-engine government. He urged Bindal to explain his resignation from his position.
Awasthi advised Bindal not to throw stones at others when he lives in a glass house. He emphasized the need to reflect a hundred times before questioning the integrity of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu. Sukkhu, being the first chief minister to assist during the biggest natural disaster in history, worked tirelessly day and night. He contributed ₹51 lakh from his pocket to the disaster relief fund, unlike BJP leaders who prioritize filling their own pockets.
Awasthi lauded the achievements of the Congress government under Sukkhu, stating that the impact of their unprecedented actions is evident from the overwhelming public response during the election campaign. The government fulfilled all the promises made during the assembly sessions. Currently, Himachal Pradesh is the only state in the country guaranteeing One Rank One Pension to 1.36 lakh government employees, whereas BJP-led governments in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan terminated the scheme upon assuming power. The BJP has never been sympathetic to the interests of employees, farmers, women, laborers, and the youth. It will be remembered solely for its anti-people policies.
Awasthi noted that every section of society feels deceived today. He mentioned that Chief Minister Sukkhu has guaranteed ₹1500 under the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Bhagya Yojana for lakhs of women in the state. However, as soon as the elections approach, BJP representatives approach the Election Commission to halt the distribution, postponing it until after June 4. Even BJP’s women leaders publicly oppose providing ₹1500 to women.
He accused the BJP of pursuing a divide and rule policy, aiming to seize power by dividing people on the basis of religion, caste, and color. However, their true face has been exposed, and the public will support a government that prioritizes their welfare.
