Yadwinder Goma, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs in Himachal Pradesh, commends the state government’s efforts under Chief Minister Sukhwindar Singh Sukhoo’s leadership, stating that they have surpassed their commitments and delivered substantial progress. He mentioned that out of the 10 promises made during the election, five have been fulfilled within a year.
In the very first cabinet meeting, the government reinstated the old pension scheme for government employees, ensuring their dignity and stability in old age. Additionally, they initiated a scheme to provide a monthly honorarium of Rs. 1500 to women, starting with the launch by Chief Minister Sukhoo in the Lahaul-Spiti district. However, this move faced opposition from BJP leaders, such as Indira Gandhi Pyari Bahna, who approached the Election Commission to halt the initiative.
Goma highlighted the initiation of the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Startup Fund with a budget of Rs. 680 crore, aiming to provide 50% subsidy for purchasing e-taxis and assistance for setting up solar plants on private lands. He emphasized the measures taken in the state budget to strengthen rural economy, including becoming the first state to offer minimum support price for milk.
Furthermore, with the completion of the fifth promise, the government has decided to start English medium education from the first grade in schools this academic session.
Goma assured the public of Chief Minister Sukhoo’s commitment to the welfare of the state, evident through actions that go beyond mere promises. Initiatives like the Sukhashraya Scheme for orphan children, education support for widows and single mothers, and financial assistance of Rs. 1.50 lakh for housing construction demonstrate the government’s inclusive approach.
He concluded by stating that the upcoming elections would witness the public’s judgment based on the government’s performance over the past year, indicating that the people of Himachal Pradesh would endorse the policies of the Congress government.
