Shimla, January 2, 2025:
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the allocation of 22 new hydropower projects with a total capacity of 828 MW. These projects range from 6.5 MW to 400 MW and are located in Kullu, Chamba, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, and Shimla districts.

The largest share includes nine projects of 595 MW in the Chenab River Basin, eight projects of 169 MW in the Sutlej River Basin, four projects of 55 MW in the Ravi Basin, and one project of 9 MW in the Beas Basin.

For the first time, the projects are being allocated to other states, union territories, and central undertakings at ₹10 lakh per MW upfront premium for 40 years. The Directorate of Energy has communicated this decision to all state secretaries and central undertakings and will also issue advertisements for wider publicity.

The CM highlighted that these projects will enhance electricity supply, generate revenue through free power, create local employment opportunities, and promote regional development, paving the way for Himachal Pradesh to become one of India’s most prosperous states.
