Himachal Marks International MSME Day with Vision for Inclusive Industrial Growth

Himachal Pradesh celebrated International MSME Day with great enthusiasm through a series of awareness programs and stakeholder engagements across the state. A major event organized by the Reserve Bank of India featured R.D. Nazim (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary (Industries), as the chief guest. He emphasized the pivotal role of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in driving the state’s economy, highlighting that over 2 lakh MSMEs are registered on the Udyam portal, collectively providing employment to around 7.8 lakh people in the state.
At another event held at the Directorate of Industries, Director Dr. Yunus (IAS) addressed bankers, officials, and entrepreneurs, underlining policy measures to enhance MSME competitiveness, innovation, market access, and institutional support. District-level programs by District Industries Centres (DICs) and Single Window Authorities (SWCAs) were also held to increase awareness about state and central MSME schemes.
Key Highlights of Industrial Growth in Himachal Pradesh:
- GSDP Contribution: Secondary sector’s share in state GSDP rose from 7.41% in 1950-51 to 39.98% in 2023-24.
- Exports: Increased from ₹550 crore in 2003-04 to ₹19,185 crore in 2023-24.
- Incentives under HPIP 2019: Include tax rebates, interest subsidies, and no-interest land payments in 8 annual installments.
- Ease of Doing Business: State improved its ranking from 17th to 7th, supported by over 180 online services and self-certification provisions.
- Startup Ecosystem: 407 startups incubated; 107 commercialized. 14 incubation centres active in IIT Mandi, IIM Sirmaur, etc.
- RAMP Programme: ₹109 crore allocated for digital transformation, green growth, and rural enterprise development.
- Industrial Infrastructure: Pharma labs in Baddi and Una, MSME tech centers, skill centers, gas pipeline links, and working hostels for men and women.
The celebrations reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a robust and inclusive MSME ecosystem, positioning Himachal as an emerging industrial and entrepreneurial hub.
