Himachal Hikes Long-Distance Bus Fares by 15%

1 min read

Shimla, May 8 – After revising the minimum fare, the Himachal Pradesh government has now increased the long-distance bus fares by 15 percent. This hike applies to all categories of buses, including ordinary, deluxe, and Volvo services operated by Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC).

The decision comes in the wake of rising fuel prices and operational costs. Transport officials stated that while the base fare was revised earlier to ensure minimum viability, the latest hike is aimed at maintaining sustainable operations for longer routes, particularly in remote and high-altitude regions.

Passengers will now pay increased rates for intercity and interstate travel, which may affect daily commuters and tourists alike. The fare hike will be applicable across all districts with immediate effect.

Transport authorities have assured that despite the hike, HRTC will continue to provide subsidized fares for students, elderly citizens, and other eligible categories.
