Withdraws NPA for New Recruits
Shimla,Feb 26 : In a significant policy decision aimed at strengthening public healthcare services, the Himachal Pradesh government has prohibited private practice by doctors serving in government medical colleges and hospitals. According to a notification issued by the Health Secretary, doctors in service will not be allowed to engage in any form of private consultation or laboratory-related work.
The government has also decided that Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) will not be applicable to doctors and faculty members recruited in the Department of Medical Education and Research on or after May 24, 2023. The move is being viewed as an effort to enforce stricter service conditions, enhance transparency, and ensure greater availability of doctors in public institutions.
Officials said the decision follows repeated complaints that some doctors were prioritising private practice over hospital duties. The government expects the policy to improve patient care and strengthen healthcare delivery across state-run medical colleges.
