Himachal: Former CM & Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur Meets Amit Shah, Praises BJP’s Bihar Victory

1 min read

Dharamshala, Nov 25: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, today met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, congratulating him on the resounding victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Bihar elections. During the meeting, Thakur raised several issues concerning Himachal Pradesh’s interests, including disaster-relief and development delays. He later met BJP national president and Union Health & Chemicals Minister J. P. Nadda—also extending his congratulations on the Bihar result.

Speaking to media, Thakur alleged that the state government has completely failed in its disaster-response efforts, saying roads remain broken, electricity and water services have not been permanently restored, and that the government lacks vision and sensitivity. He claimed the administration is “aimless”, with no mature decision-making, adding that law and order have collapsed in the state—citing incidents in Una and Solan districts where shootings and murders have occurred in broad daylight. He accused the government of intimidating journalists rather than controlling criminals.

On the question of rural governance, Thakur criticised the government’s suspension of panchayat delimitation: when the state Election Commission urged delimitation and roster preparation, the government allegedly ignored the directives, only to issue delimitation orders via cabinet once terms expired. “This has never happened in the state,” he charged, calling the government an example of anarchy rather than “Viksit Himachal”. He announced that from tomorrow’s assembly session, the BJP will hold the government accountable for every failure and anti-public action.
