Himachal Disaster: PM’s Visit Welcomed, Govt. Must Deliver Relief – Jairam Thakur

1 min read

Kangra, Sept 8 – Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for visiting Himachal Pradesh during its toughest times and standing with the people affected by disasters. Reviewing preparations in Kangra ahead of PM’s visit, Thakur said the Prime Minister’s presence would bring confidence to the state and hoped Himachal would receive maximum support for recovery.

He highlighted that continuous heavy rains, cloudbursts, and landslides since June have left Himachal with “unhealed wounds.” Thousands of families have lost their homes and livelihoods, tourism has collapsed, and agriculture and horticulture—especially the apple economy—are facing devastating losses due to blocked roads and rotting produce.

Thakur alleged that while the Centre has already sanctioned ₹5,150 crore for disaster relief, the state government has distributed only ₹300 crore to affected people. He accused the Congress-led government of “doing politics instead of relief” and failing to restore roads quickly, leaving farmers and horticulturists to bear huge financial setbacks.

He urged the Chief Minister to ensure that central funds reach disaster-hit families immediately, stressing that timely relief and restoration of roads are crucial to save apple and vegetable growers from complete ruin.
