Atwal May Get Additional Charge if Consensus Fails
Shimla | 27 May 2025: A panel of three senior IPS officers has been prepared for the appointment of the new Director General of Police (DGP) in Himachal Pradesh. Shyam Bhagat, a 1989-batch IPS officer, is emerging as the frontrunner for the top post. However, if consensus is not reached on his appointment, Atwal is expected to be given crime additional charge of the DGP post.
The selection process has been initiated as the tenure of the current DGP is nearing completion. The final decision will be made after review by the UPSC and state government.
