Shimla, July 30: In a major move to curb rising investment-related frauds, the Himachal Pradesh Cyber Police and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) have agreed to collaborate on awareness and enforcement efforts. During a virtual meeting held on Tuesday, both parties discussed strategies to tackle financial crimes, especially frauds being carried out through social media platforms.

Himachal is set to become the first state in India to formally work with SEBI on this front. Cyber Police suggested the launch of a public hotline, widespread awareness campaigns with social media hashtags, and the appointment of a prominent personality as a campaign ambassador—similar to RBI’s model. SEBI officials praised these suggestions.

The collaboration aims to empower investors by informing them about risks, rights, and investment products. An MoU is expected to be signed soon to formalize the partnership.
