Himachal Awaits Relief: Mustard Oil Shortage Persists in Ration Depots

Shimla, 27January 2025: Over 19 lakh consumers in Himachal Pradesh have been waiting for mustard oil in ration depots since October. The latest tender process has quoted the lowest rate at ₹141 per liter, ₹18 higher than the previous price. If approved, consumers might receive mustard oil in February at this increased rate.
The last tender quoted ₹150 per liter, which the government rejected. Now, the Food and Civil Supplies Department awaits government approval for the ₹141 rate. The delay in oil supply has placed the government under pressure, especially with criticism from the opposition.
The government faces mounting pressure to resume mustard oil distribution in ration depots promptly.
