Him Eera Shops Empower Women: New Identity of Self-Reliant Himachal

2 min read

Kangra, November 2:

A quiet yet powerful socio-economic transformation is unfolding in Kangra district, where Him Eera Shops are emerging as a remarkable model of women’s empowerment, rural livelihood promotion, and preservation of Himachali identity.
This initiative, driven by the Kangra District Administration, is strengthening the Vocal for Local movement by providing women entrepreneurs a dignified and reliable marketplace for their handmade products.

Under the Him Eera brand, exclusive sales outlets have been established to promote products crafted by women Self-Help Groups (SHGs). These include organic spices, woolen garments, bamboo crafts, local pickles, honey, millet-based food items, herbal cosmetics, and traditional handicrafts — each reflecting the rich culture and craftsmanship of the region.

The first Him Eera Shop was launched at the DC Office complex in Dharamshala, followed by new outlets at Chamunda and Kangra. Along with sales, the shops also support packaging, branding, and quality enhancement through regular training programs, ensuring the products meet market standards and reach wider consumers.

Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa informed that these shops are strategically set up at high-footfall areas such as SDM offices, BDO complexes, temple premises, and other public locations to maximize sales.
Our goal is to expand Him Eera Shops across every subdivision, block headquarters, and major temple complexes, so that more women can benefit from direct market access,” he added.

Currently, the DC Office Him Eera Shop alone records ₹70,000 to ₹1 lakh in monthly sales, directly benefiting local SHGs and enhancing their income and confidence. Efforts are now underway to introduce online sales, enabling women entrepreneurs to reach state-wide and national customers through digital market channels.

The initiative also aligns with the vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister to strengthen the rural economy while making women economically independent.

In Padher Panchayat near Dharamshala, Asha Devi leads an SHG named Abhilasha, comprising 12 women. They started with herbal soap-making using a multipurpose extraction machine. With growing experience and confidence, they now produce various soaps, shampoos, and face creams — all proudly displayed and sold through Him Eera Shops.
Asha Devi says the initiative has given them a strong income source and a respected identity in society.

Him Eera Shops today stand as a shining example of self-reliance and empowerment in Himachal Pradesh, creating new opportunities for women while preserving the essence of local heritage and craftsmanship.
