High reaches of HP receive snowfall, mercury plummets

Shimla, Dec 29 – Himachal Pradesh has good news for lakhs of visiting tourists and those who are planning to visit the state on New year eve, high reaches have received snowfall and inclement weather indicates that more snow is in store in the state.

Met Office said that light rain is continuing in Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una, Solan, Shimla, Mandi, Kangra and Kullu district. Snowfall is continuing in high reaches of Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Shimla and Kullu district. Reports arriving here from including Kaza and Keylong of Lahaul-Spiti district state that high reaches are receiving snowfall in the state. Report arriving here today said that high reaches are snowing and light rain has been recorded in the downstream areas.
Keylong and Hansa recorded two cm and one cm snow and Kufri 0.5 cm till 4.30 pm. Tourist resort Manali in Kullu, Kufri and Narkanda in Shimla district received snowflakes. Many parts of Solan and Shimla District have receiving light rainfall. It was mainly overcast since this morning and cold wave has increased in the state.
Minimum temperature plummeted this season lowest as was minus 15 degrees at Kaza and minus 4.8 at Keylong in the state. Minimum temperature of Shimla 5.3, Kalpa minus two, Dharamshala 8.2, Una & Chamba 4.6, Nahan(Siramaur) 8.5, Kufri and Solan 3, Manali one – Kangra 7, Hamirpur and Mandi 4, Dalhousie and Bilaspur 5.5.
Met Office forecast rain or snowfall at many places in mid or high reaches and few places in foothills. Forecast of snowfall or rain is also being made at several places tomorrow.
