Heavy Rains Cause ₹168 Crore Loss in Bilaspur; 7 Relief Camps Set Up

Bilaspur, Sept 10: Recent heavy rains in Bilaspur district have caused damages worth over ₹168 crore, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar informed. The Public Works Department suffered the highest loss of ₹117 crore, followed by ₹32.10 crore in the Jal Shakti Department and ₹19 lakh in the Electricity Department. Structural damages including cowsheds, kitchens, and toilets have been estimated at ₹7.62 crore.
To support affected families, the administration has set up seven relief camps housing 22 families (99 people). Additionally, 42 families (99 members) have been shifted to rented accommodations, with rent covered by the government.
Currently, nine roads remain blocked, with restoration work in progress, and nine drinking water schemes are also disrupted. Over ₹7 lakh in immediate relief has already been distributed.
The DC assured that relief and rehabilitation remain top priority, with all subdivision officers actively working in the field. He also appealed to individuals and organizations to contribute to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and district-level relief efforts.
