Health System in Himachal in Crisis, Govt Must Act Seriously: Jairam Thakur

Shimla, December 23, 2025:
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh, urging the state government to work with sincerity to improve healthcare services. He said that verbal assurances and paperwork would not fix a system that is already under severe strain, with patients bearing the brunt of administrative negligence.
Thakur alleged that hospitals across the state are facing an acute shortage of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, essential medicines, and modern equipment. He said that although both Central and State-sponsored health schemes exist on paper, their benefits are not reaching people effectively on the ground.
Reacting to a recent violence incident at IGMC Shimla, he termed it a “serious warning sign” caused by overcrowding, lack of security, staff shortage, and administrative failures. He demanded immediate corrective steps instead of routine statements.
The Leader of Opposition stressed that schemes like Himcare and Ayushman Bharat must be implemented effectively, as they are lifelines for poor and middle-class families. He alleged that despite adequate central funding, patients are forced to run from pillar to post for treatment and medicines.
Thakur called upon the government to urgently fill vacant posts, strengthen hospital security, ensure uninterrupted supply of medicines and equipment, and guarantee that the benefits of central health schemes reach the last person.
