Health Minister Pays Tribute to Victims of Shiva Baori Tragedy

Shimla, August 14 – Health and Family Welfare, Social Justice and Empowerment, and Soldier Welfare Minister Colonel (Dr.) Dhaniram Shandil paid tribute to the victims of the Shiva Baori tragedy at the memorial in Summerhill today. The tragedy, which occurred on August 14 last year, resulted in the loss of 20 lives due to a natural disaster that severely damaged the ancient Shiva Baori temple.

Dr. Shandil recalled that the disaster, caused by heavy rains and landslides, resulted in significant loss of life and property, with approximately 551 people dying and over ₹12,000 crore in economic damage across the state. He praised Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for his proactive response, providing relief to those affected by the disaster. The state government had introduced a special relief package, including provisions of ₹7 lakh for completely damaged houses.

The Health Minister emphasized that, with the current heavy rains, the administration at every district and block level has made thorough preparations to prevent any further loss of life and property. Following the tribute, Dr. Shandil also planted a sapling.

The ceremony was attended by MLA Harish Janartha, Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surendra Chauhan, municipal councilors, families of the deceased, local residents, and other attendees.
