The HC Rai Centenary ArtFest, a celebration of the late Sh HC Rai’s enduring artistic legacy in Himachal, is set to leave an indelible mark on the region’s cultural landscape. Sh HC Rai, honored with the Sardar Sobha Singh Lifetime Achievement Award by the Himachal Pradesh Government, was a founding figure as the Principal of RKMV College, Shimla, and H.P. Govt. College of Arts, Shimla. The event, organized by the Language & Culture Department, Himachal Pradesh, in collaboration with Abhivyakti, seeks to inspire young artists by conducting art workshops and competitions for school students.
These engaging activities aim to teach students innovative learning techniques, encouraging them to experiment with various art forms and develop their unique styles. The competition event is divided into two categories: junior (for classes 3 to 6) and senior (for classes 7 to 10). The themes for the competition include “My Home,” “My Family,” “Mother Nature,” and “My School.” Participants hail from 12 different schools, with more than 50 students taking part.
The artists leading these workshops are: Jagjit Nishat and Murari Lal for Poster and Watercolors, SN Kushawa, Narender Aggarwal, Bhim Singh, Om Prakash Puri for Oil Pastels, and Wahid and Surjit Singh for Acrylic.
The event will culminate in a closing ceremony on October 22, where results will be announced and prizes distributed, with all participants receiving certificates.
Additionally, today at 4.00 pm, a Tankari workshop for senior artists will be conducted by Dr. Kishori Chandel, further enriching the artistic experience.
