Hamirpur, Nov 6 – Dr Anil Kumar Dhiman of BJP is once again facing Suresh Kumar of the Congress party for the second time in the Vidhan Sabha election from Bhoranj (Reserve) seat.
Dhiman had earlier won this seat in a by-election after the death of his father Late ID Dhiman of the BJP who was a six-time MLA of the constituency.
Dhiman is thus trying to win the seat a second time. In the 2017 election, he was denied the ticket and the ticket was given to Kamlesh Kumari. However, this time, the party once again changed the candidate under the pressure of the local people and once again accommodated Dhiman to ensure that the party wins this seat for the ninth time in a row.
There are 82738 voters in the constituency out of which 41472 are women and 41266 men showing that women once again outnumber their men counterparts here too.
There are five candidates in the fray and an independent candidate, Pavan Kumar having allegiance with the BJP is giving sleepless nights to the official candidate as he is also the sitting member of the Zila Parishad from Samirpur ward.
The main plank of the independent candidate is to end the system of granting tickets to the family members of the former MLAs and to groom new faces to take up the cause of the people in the assembly to get them solved.
In the last assembly elections, Kamlesh Kumari of the BJP defeated Suresh Kumar of the Congress party by a margin of 6,892 votes. In that election, the voting percentage of women in the constituency was 72.36, and all-out steps this time were in the making to take it to ninety.
The Bhoranj area of the district was known as the Rive bowl of the district earlier. However, the situation has taken a reverse trend due to an increase in habitation and less rain in the district due to the change in the climate.
With just less than one week left for the polling, leaders of all parties have swung into action to get voters in their favour. The BJP campaign is mainly spearheaded by the party candidate himself with the former MLA, Kamlesh Kumari also working for his success by canvassing with another team of the party.
HP chief Minister, Jai Ram Thakur has also toured the area not less than three times and had sought people’s vote and support for the party to once again form its government in the state.
He claims that each vote will count in this election and all should reach the polling stations in time for casting their votes.
Dr Anil Dhiman of the BJP says that whatever the Bhoranj area is today that was due to the development done by his late Father ID Dhiman who was six timers MLA from the constituency. He told UNI that he would like to maintain the same tempo of development in the area if given one more chance to serve. He, however, is highly optimistic that the people of the area will vote for him and the parties as people are satisfied with the performance of the double-engine government of the party in the state.
On the other hand, Suresh Kumar of the Congress party has been spearheading his campaign on the agenda of the revival of the old pension scheme to the employees; granting of more jobs to the unemployed youth, and curbing the growing lawlessness in the state. He told UNI that the state suffered a big loss during the last five years of the BJP regime and as such there was a need for the formation of a Congress party-led government in the state.
He said the people of the Bhoranj area too were upset with the lack of development and voted for him en-masse in the elections so that the party government was formed with ease.
Whatever may be the outcome of the elections this time, one thing is sure the contest here will be lively and the way the BJP rebel Pavan Kumar is campaigning he is going to cut into the votes of both major parties thereby changing the election scenario of the constituency this time.
