Hamirpur, Sept 10
The state government of Himachal Pradesh has made the decision to establish an advanced cancer care unit in the Hamirpur district. The Health Services Corporation will soon invite tenders for this purpose. Approximately 50 crores are estimated to be spent on the basic infrastructure and machinery for this unit.
The establishment of this unit is expected to provide better medical facilities to cancer patients in the region, eliminating the need for them to seek treatment in other states. Currently, cancer patients from Hamirpur and surrounding districts have to either go to Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla or travel to other states for treatment. The unit’s establishment in Hamirpur is expected to provide significant convenience to residents of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, and Mandi districts.
This initiative is set to reduce the patient load at Indira Gandhi Medical College, which currently sees over a hundred outpatient visits daily, and often requires patient admissions. The availability of advanced cancer care in Hamirpur is expected to be highly beneficial to the local population. The Health Secretary, M. Sudha, stated that the process of establishing the Advanced Cancer Care Unit is already underway, with the Health Services Corporation procuring the necessary machinery. This facility is expected to provide significant benefits to the people in the region.
