Habitual Drug Offender Detained Under PIT NDPS Act

Shimla, March 3: In continued action under its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, **Shimla Police** has detained a habitual drug offender under the PIT NDPS Act.
Acting in compliance with a detention order issued by the Himachal Pradesh Government, a team from Police Station Nankhari detained Prem Raj alias I.D. Mehta alias Santosh Mehta, a resident of Jagot, Tehsil Nankhari, on March 2, 2026. He has been sent to District Correctional Home, Kaithu, Shimla, for a preventive detention period of three months.
Police stated that the accused has a history of involvement under the NDPS Act, 1985. He has been arrested four times previously, convicted in two cases, while two other cases remain pending before the court. Past cases include recovery of 300 grams of charas (2012, PS Rampur – convicted), 107 grams of charas (2018, PS Nankhari – convicted), 9.93 grams of charas (2023 – pending), and 18.59 grams of heroin (2024 – pending).
Considering his repeated involvement in illegal drug trafficking and in the interest of public safety, preventive detention under the PIT NDPS Act has been enforced.
Shimla Police informed that in the past month alone, 24 habitual and organized drug traffickers have been detained under similar orders and lodged in jail for three months.
The district police reaffirmed its commitment to a strict “Zero Tolerance” policy against drugs and stated that such decisive action will continue to protect youth and maintain public health and safety.
