Tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh ahead of the festive and wedding season have reason to cheer as GST rates on hotel rooms have been slashed. Rooms priced below ₹7,500 per night will now attract only 5% GST instead of 12%, reducing tariffs by ₹371 to ₹504 per night. Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has already implemented the revised rates in 52 of its 56 hotels.
For example, Shimla’s iconic Hotel Peterhof’s ₹7,200 VVIP room earlier cost ₹8,064 with GST but will now be ₹7,560, offering guests a saving of ₹504. Similarly, the Super Deluxe room priced at ₹5,400 will now cost ₹5,670 compared to the earlier ₹6,048. However, rooms above ₹7,500, like those at Kasauli’s Ros Common, Chail, Manali, and Log Huts, will continue with 18% GST.
HPTDC MD Dr. Rajeev Kumar confirmed that the reduced GST benefits are directly reaching customers, making state-run hotels more affordable for travelers.
