Shimla, Sept 22 – BJP National Spokesperson Gopal Krishna Agarwal stated that Himachal Pradesh will face no loss due to GST reforms and will instead witness a 14% annual increase in revenue. Addressing a press conference, he highlighted that in 2023–24, Himachal earned ₹5,339 crore from GST and ₹2,845 crore from IGST, totaling ₹9,375 crore. Additionally, the state received ₹14,942 crore as grants-in-aid, amounting to ₹24,317 crore from the Centre, which is nearly 50% of the state’s total budget of ₹50,000 crore.
He dismissed Congress’s claims of financial loss, emphasizing that major expenses like salaries (39%), pensions (23%), and interest (15%) are the real burden. Agarwal also underlined that Next Gen GST Reforms, effective from today, will simplify compliance, reduce tax slabs to 5% and 18%, ensure faster refunds, and benefit both businesses and consumers.
Calling it a “historic economic achievement,” he said the reforms will strengthen India’s economy, boost investment, benefit farmers with cheaper equipment, and further the vision of a self-reliant India.
