Shimla, May 3, 2025 – Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur slammed the state government, accusing it of making a mockery of governance in the name of “Vyavastha Parivartan” (systemic change). In a sharp statement from Shimla, he criticized the deployment of Junior Engineers (JE) and other municipal staff to liquor shops, saying that essential public services are being sidelined.

Thakur revealed that over 45 employees, including JEs, inspectors, home guards, and other officials in the Shimla Municipal Corporation, have been assigned liquor shop duties. He said offices are deserted and public work like tax collection, proposal drafting, and encroachment removal has come to a standstill.

Further, he expressed concern over the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) staff being forced to protest for salaries. “Teachers who should be imparting education are holding dharnas. This is a serious failure of the system,” Thakur said. He urged CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to ensure timely disbursal of salaries and pensions and to refrain from governance experiments that hurt public welfare.
