Govt Bringing Guest Teacher Policy Despite Denials: Jairam Thakur

1 min read

Shimla, 15 December 2024: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur criticized the state government for reintroducing the controversial Guest Teacher Policy. He accused the government of breaking its promises and deceiving the youth of the state by hiring teachers on an hourly basis instead of providing permanent employment, as promised during elections.

Jairam Thakur stated that the policy was previously withdrawn after public opposition, but the government has now brought it back, contradicting its earlier assurances. He further alleged that the closure of over 500 schools and the declining enrollment in government schools reflect the government’s lack of commitment to education.

Thakur highlighted that during the BJP tenure, government school enrollment increased from 48% to 59%, while under the current regime, it has dropped to 32%. He also questioned the government’s claim of creating jobs, pointing out that instead of fulfilling its promise of one lakh jobs annually, the government is resorting to part-time recruitment.

He urged the government to focus on addressing the issues in the education sector and work sincerely for the welfare of students and parents rather than making false promises.
