July 15, 2024:

Shimla: Opposition leader Jairam Thakur issued a press statement from Shimla stating that the state government has been running the development of the state in reverse gear for the past one and a half years. In this time, the government has nothing to show in the name of development. It has been a year since the disaster caused by rain in the state, and people are still wandering for help. People rendered homeless in this disaster have not yet been given land, and people are forced to live in forests. Such insensitivity towards the affected is extremely unfortunate. The government should remember its promises and help people effectively based on humanity. Only verbal extravagance will not help. People rendered homeless have been sitting in hope for government assistance for one year.

Jairam Thakur said that thousands of houses in the state were completely demolished last year due to rain. People’s homes, orchards, animal husbandries, fields, and crops were all severely damaged. There were many people whose lands had also flowed away, and people had also become landless with the house. The BJP had also demanded to give land to the affected people for making a house during the Assembly session. The government had announced to give 3 bighas of land to the rural areas and 2 bighas in urban areas. It has been a year since the government’s announcement, but so far no landless has got an inch of land, and people are forced to stay in forests. This issue has also been raised extensively in the news. However, the government is not showing any effective step in such an important and sensitive matter. In such a situation, questions arise that when people do not even have land, where will they build houses.

The opposition leader said that the government has completely stopped the development works in the state but is running the government regularly by taking loans. Work on roads, from hospitals to schools and hospitals, has been stopped in the state. The government is currently accepting any such announcement from the disaster-affected, as well as declaring land in the rural area of 3 feet and urban areas of two feet. The situation is worsening day by day.
