Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today paid floral tributes to the martyred police personnel at the Martyr Memorial Bharari, near Shimla on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the State Government would formulate a comprehensive policy for the welfare of the families of the martyrs. He said that police personnel serve the nation by performing their duty with utmost dedication and selflessly. They ensure the safety of citizens with a true spirit of serving the country.
Police personnel played a pivotal role in undertaking relief and rescue operations and protecting life and property during the recent natural disaster for which they deserve appreciation, said Sh. Sukhu and added that the State Government was committed to equip the police department with advanced information technology and important changes were being made in the department with a positive approach.
The State Government is giving top priority for curbing drug menace in the State and the assets of persons involved in such crimes would also be seized, he remarked.
The Chief Minister also honoured the families of martyred police officers and employees of the State Police on the occasion including families of IPS Saju Ram Rana, Sub Inspector Rakesh Gaura, Assistant Sub Inspector Vinod Kumar, Chief Constable Praveen Kumar, Constable Kamaljeet, Constable Sachin Rana, Constable Abhishek Singh and Constable Lakshya Maungra.
Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu detailed about Police Memorial Day celebrated every year on 21st October. On this day, tributes are paid to martyred police personnel across the country, he said.
