Shimla, March 28, 2025 – Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh inaugurated the state-level “Saanjha Utsav”, organized by the Urban Livelihood Mission (SULM). The festival, which runs from March 28 to April 1, 2025, at Ridge Ground, Padam Dev Complex, Shimla, aims to provide a market platform for self-help groups (SHGs) and street vendors.

Speaking at the event, Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the rural economy by promoting traditional products. He announced plans to set up dedicated shops in Shimla where SHG-produced items will be available year-round for both locals and tourists.

The event features over 50 SHGs from Himachal Pradesh and other states like Meghalaya, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh. Singh highlighted that the festival would not only provide economic opportunities to urban poor families but also offer visitors a chance to experience Himachali handicrafts and traditional cuisine.

Urban Director Neeraj Kumar introduced a new poverty alleviation mission, selecting Chamba as a pilot city. The initiative will support gig workers, transport workers, domestic workers, waste collectors, and construction laborers under the City Livelihood and Action Plan (CLAP). So far, 4,955 SHGs, 272 ALFs, and 42 CLFs have been formed under DAY-NULM, benefiting thousands through skill training and employment opportunities.

Local MLA Harish Janartha, Shimla Mayor Surendra Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, and other dignitaries attended the event.
