Government Faces Criticism for ‘Pyaari Behna Samman Nidhi’ Recovery Plans: Jairam Thakur
1 min readShimla – Leader of the Opposition, Jairam Thakur, criticized the Sukhu government for allegedly planning to recover funds distributed under the ‘Pyaari Behna Samman Nidhi’ scheme after the elections. Thakur claimed that the government is looking for ways to recover the money given to women under the scheme and has already issued instructions to the concerned officials. He also mentioned that changes to the rules for the second installment of the scheme are being prepared.
Thakur highlighted that the Congress government had promised ten guarantees before the elections but started deceiving the public after coming to power. The Congress had guaranteed ₹1500 per month to every woman aged 18 to 60. However, after forming the government, no progress was made on this promise for a year and a half. When the government faced public pressure, they announced the Indira Gandhi Sukha Samman Yojana and collected numerous forms from the public during the election period. Only 46,000 women received the promised amount, leaving millions feeling betrayed.
He further accused the Congress government of failing to deliver on their promises of creating one lakh jobs annually and providing 300 units of free electricity. He pointed out that the government withdrew subsidies and failed to create new jobs while pending recruitment results remain unresolved. Thakur emphasized that the Sukhu government’s actions post-election have been contrary to their promises, terming it as deceitful.
