Government Committed to Promoting Education and Sports in Schools: Vikramaditya Singh

Public Works and Urban Development Minister, Vikramaditya Singh, emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting both education and sports in all educational institutions across the state. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 39th State-Level Under-14 Girls’ Sports Competition at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sunni, he extended his best wishes to the 850 young participants from 12 districts. The event, organized by the Himachal Pradesh School Sports Organization, is a four-day competition aimed at fostering teamwork, fitness, and sportsmanship.
Singh reiterated that the government is working to provide quality education along with ensuring the physical and mental development of students. He mentioned ongoing efforts to improve the education system, with initiatives like cluster schools being introduced in every constituency to provide better learning opportunities. Additionally, management committees in schools have been given the authority to decide on student uniforms, enhancing both education quality and the students’ experience.
The minister also highlighted the ongoing development projects in the Sunni region, including the crucial Salapad-Tatapani Sunni-Luhri road, which is under consideration to be designated as a National Highway. Singh assured that a budget of ₹68 crore has been allocated for the road widening project from Sunni to Luhri, with ₹20 crore already sanctioned for the construction of a double-lane road to Khaira.
In addition, a new model school building in Sunni, worth ₹7.6 crore, is set to begin construction soon. He mentioned the approval of an expansion plan for the Sunni hospital, increasing it to a 100-bed facility, which will improve healthcare access for local residents.
Singh also outlined several water supply projects, including a ₹25 crore lift-water scheme to ensure round-the-clock water availability for Sunni town.
During the event, Singh announced a grant of ₹31,000 for the smooth conduct of the sports competition and cultural performances by the students. He concluded by encouraging students to pursue both academic and athletic excellence, assuring continued support from the government.
