Governance on Autopilot? Key Ministers Skip Sukhu Cabinet Meet

Raising Questions on Governance Priorities

Shimla, June 28: In a surprising turn, four ministers of the Himachal Pradesh cabinet, including Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, were absent from a crucial cabinet meeting chaired by CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu at the state secretariat. Their absence has sparked serious public concern over the government’s coordination and commitment to administrative priorities.

Deputy CM Agnihotri chose to remain at home to host a private religious Bhagwat Katha, distancing himself from political affairs for several days. Cabinet Minister Vikramaditya Singh is in Delhi on a personal visit, while Ministers Rohit Thakur and Harshvardhan Chauhan are reportedly on tours in their respective constituencies. Interestingly, Rohit Thakur was in Shimla just a day before, participating in a press conference on departmental achievements—raising eyebrows over his sudden unavailability for the cabinet.

Citizens and critics are questioning why the cabinet meeting was scheduled at all when several ministers had clearly indicated their inability to attend. With pressing issues like state finances, employee concerns, and monsoon disaster preparedness on the table, the absence of key policymakers points to a worrying lack of seriousness.

As governance in Himachal faces growing scrutiny, the cabinet’s internal coordination—or lack thereof—is now under the public lens.
