Fraud in IGMC’s landline phone purchase

2 min read

Shimla, April 08 – The purchase of 400 landline phone sets for the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital, Shimla, at a cost of about Rs 60 lakh, has been found to be rigged. These landline phones have been bought at higher cost than the market rate, whereas they do not even have the facilities of a common set. According to sources, the hospital management has got a landline phone set for about Rs 15,000, while it is being told that the price of this phone in the market is Rs 1,200. Now the IGMC management has asked the officials of the Electricity Wing of the Public Works Department (PWD) to record the purchase. Many officers may come under wraps in the investigation. At whose behest these phones were bought at such high rates in the hospital, has become talk of the place.

The work of setting up a new exchange at IGMC started in the year 2020. This exchange is not yet running smoothly. Meanwhile, 400 landline phones were purchased. It was being claimed that these phones were to have internet and other facilities, but the situation was opposite. The situation is that the places where these phones are installed in the hospital are not functioning properly. When the management got information about this, these things were found correct in the investigation. On checking at the management level, it was found that there is no facility other than listening to the phone. In such a situation, the management has now asked the officials of the PWD Electricity Wing for the record of their purchase.
